How to be successful with bedtime!

Does your child struggle to go to bed on time? Or protest for an hour or more to go to sleep? Then you are in the right place! In this article you will learn helpful tips to cue your child know bedtime is here.

First tip, start a bedtime routine an hour to 45 minutes before the actual bedtime. It is highly recommended all screens are put away as the blue light from screens are known to stimulate your child.

Next, make the routing consistent! Consistency is key for your child to have success! For example: brush teeth, get dressed into pajamas, pick out books ( if your child is old enough they can choose the books), read, and then lights out. Doing these in the same order every know makes your child feel confident they can be successful and that there are no surprises. If you would like to change the routine a little you can have your child decide if they want to brush their teeth first or you.

Third, when you start implementing the bedtime routine and you reach your child's room, make sure the lights are dim. This way your child's melatonin levels can start to rise.

Fourth, if you have a toddler or school aged child that always insist for one more hug, kiss, drink, etc, try to tackle them before your child ask. Make sure to include everything in the bedtime routine so you know all their needs are met.

Fifth, some children really benefit from the visual aid of a bedtime routine chart. You can either make one at home no cost or there are plenty you can buy out there on the market. Just make sure you choose one that includes everything you and your child desires.
