What is Sleep training and is it safe?

How to get your child to sleep independently and Is sleep training safe?

Sleep training is absolutely safe no matter your child’s age. During the sleep training process, you are simply teaching your infant or child a skill just like any other. During the sleep training process, you are teaching your child healthy sleep habits that allow them to fall asleep independently. When your child is experiencing troubles falling asleep at bed or having frequent night wakings, it is not because your child doesn’t want to go to sleep. The problem is most likely that your child is dependent on a habit that helps them fall asleep. For example, feeding to fall asleep, being bounced or rocked until asleep, and etc. Your infant or child does not have the know- how, to fall asleep independently yet. During the sleep training process, you will be given a sleep plan to implement teaching your infant/ child the know-how to fall asleep independently. Within the sleep plan you will find a section that covers everything you need to know what is appropriate for safe sleep. Safe sleep is a guideline to attempt to prevent risks factors that could be harmful for your child during sleep.

Does the sleep training process cause emotional, physical or phsycilogical harm?

THE ANSWER IS NO! Sleep training is completely safe. A common fear for parents is if they let their infant/ child cry. Letting your child cry is totally okay. They will still love you as much as you love them. Letting your child cry allows them to express themselves especially for ones who haven’t mastered conversations. They cannot simply tell you what is wrong, so they become frustrated resulting in more crying. As the parent you are to tune in and understand what exactly your infant/ child needs and are trying to tell you. Sleep training does not cause your child any harm. You are teaching them a skill just like teaching them how to ride a bike or walk for the first time. You know your infant/ child needs sleep. Otherwise, chaos will break loose. They will become fussy, irritable, and overtired. For some kids it will work differently, and they become more hyperactive and overtired. When enrolling in the sleep training process, you are doing what is best for your child because you love them. Your whole family deserves the proper amount of sleep.

Sleep training and what it is

Sleep training is a simple process. You find your sleep consultant and book a consultation. Once the appointment is book, you are then sent a questionnaire to understand where your family is currently, your needs, your preferences and parenting style. Once submitted, Aliya then gets started on a tailored sleep plan for your infant or child. The sleep plan includes several aspects including methods for the parents to implement, routines for night and day to follow, and more. Depending on what your family needs, you will either be told you need a 1,2-, or 3-week consultation due to factors of where you are currently, preferences, and etc. There will be video calls with Aliya during the beginning and end of the consultation. For the 2- and 3-week consultation there is also another video call. During three video calls we go over the sleep plan, and if there are any questions about the sleep plan you may ask. You will receive unlimited support throughout the process via text. So, if your little tike is having a hard time laying down for a nap and you need to know what to do, send a text and Aliya will answer. Or if its bedtime and your infant/ child is resisting the sleep plan and you're getting frustrated and need some advice for dealing with the situation, text Aliya and she will answer when she receives your text. Just like adults, it takes children time to adapt to new situations. This is why the process is carried out in two-three weeks most of the time. You will see each night your child make progress with the amount of time it takes for them to fall asleep and the number of nights wakings decrease. If you have toddlers and older kids, Aliya will also give ideas for incentives to encourage your child to want to fall asleep independently and little to no cost. Overall, you will be happy with the sleep training process and what it can do for your family.
