Attending Holidays and event with your Child
Do you have a vacation coming up? Or maybe a special event such as a wedding or adventure that you are going to endure most of the day or the whole day? But then you stop and think “How will this be possible with your infant or child who is dependent on their normal routine?’ you can still attend those important moments or adventures with your child.
First, consider your child’s routine, as a routine for children is more important than some may think. A routine help gives your child cues to expect what is coming next.
Second, make sure you plan ahead. If you know your schedule is going to be busy, time everything. If your child typically takes a nap at 1 pm, make sure lunch will be at 12 pm if you can control the time. If it is a wedding or a similar situation, try to keep your child's nap or bedtime the same. If it's not exactly 1 pm one dot that is ok. But no more than 20 minutes, keeping your child on track as much as possible. For naps being pushed past half an hour than normal time, could result in a hyperactivity or crankiness.
Third, you have an eventful evening planned, you need to consider your child’s needs. We all want our children to be a part of great memories but in reality infants and toddlers need more sleep than us adults. Consider your child's bedtime and bedtime routine. Pushing back their routine anything more than half an hour can cause turmoil for you the next day. Plan everything that is most important for your young child to be a part of before their bedtime. It is also helpful for them to have an hour 45 minutes to unwind and get ready for bed after a long day of fun.
Keeping in mind your child is still young and having patience is key. Eventful days are more stimulating for young children as they are curious, learning still, and overwhelmed easier than adults. Keeping your routine similar will help your child stay on track.
